Heating and cooling is provided by reverse-cycle air conditioning powered by mains electricity. Although we won’t run out of power, we kindly ask that the air conditioning is turned off when you are out adventuring. Keeping blinds down will help keep the house cool as well.

Outdoor seating on the timber decking along with a BBQ allows you to spend time outdoors and extend the living area of the home.

Our retreat is self-contained but we do supply a complimentary breakfast hamper that has provisions for 2 people for two days, or 4 people for one day (and also a sneaky bottle of one of our favourite local wines!).

  • Although we are animal lovers ourselves, we kindly ask that you leave your pets at home.

  • Community

We want to champion our Riverland region which is why we choose to use Riverland products and businesses where we can. If it’s not available from a Riverland based business, we then look to the wider South Australia. You’ll find our favourite Riverland experiences and eateries listed here. We consider ourselves local experts and if you’re after some recommendations on things to do or where to go wine tasting, we can help guide you!

    Sustainability

Treading lightly on the land and reducing our output is important to us; we reduce, reuse and recycle where we can and we ask our guests to also tread lightly when visiting.

The tiny villa itself has a small footprint and has been built using sustainable materials. The stone cottage has be restored using repurposed materials like second hand Oregon timber for the expose roof beams and clawfoot bathtub was also saved and restored and now rests atop a hardwood floor that was previously an Adelaide community centre gymnasium floor.

Rainwater is harvested from the cottage and the tiny villa which is then stored in tanks that provide filtered water back to the retreat for bathing and consumption. We chose low volume water fittings and this water is perfectly safe for drinking.

Although the retreat is powered by electricity, we hope to one day offer solar powered villas too.

Gas, a clean energy alternative is used for stovetop cooking and heating water.

Waste products are disposed of thoughtfully with recyclables separated from landfill and where possible all our cleaning equipment and supplies are compostable, biodegradable or designed for multiple use. We avoid single use plastics where possible.

  • As a family with young children ourselves, it is important to us to provide a safe space for children if you wish to share this experience with them. The villa Flow is not adults only and we would love to see your family experiencing the river as we do. The Murray River is 120m from the retreat, a safe enough distance, but please watch where your children are always.

We recommend children wear life jackets when near the waters edge.

Inside the house we have plastic plates, bowls and cups along with some smaller kids cutlery, perfect for toddlers. A porta cot can be provided on request. Please note that due to the size of the loft bedrooms the porta cot can only be set up downstairs. A gate can be provided on request to stop small children from leaving the loft bedroom and climbing down the stairs unassisted.
